St. Bernard Project

St. Bernard Project (SBP) is an award-winning rebuilding, nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure that disaster-impacted communities recover in a prompt, efficient, and predictable way. With its innovative, vertically integrated construction system, SBP is poised to serve as a model for disaster rebuilding and affordable housing. With clients throughout the Greater New Orleans area, SBP reaches the communities most in need. St. Bernard Project is dedicated to restoring the hard-working, family-oriented communities in New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish to a level of vibrancy and self-sufficiency.

Our Communities:  SBP’s Opportunity Housing Program creates opportunities for homeownership. The program is currently operating with homes in Gentilly, a diverse neighborhood with an array of housing types including 19th century shotguns and mid-20thcentury bungalows; the Lower Ninth Ward, an historic area with a cache of civil rights history and cultural achievement; and New Orleans East.

Eligible applicants are encouraged to apply for the City of New Orleans Soft Second Mortgage Program which provides resources to help make home ownership more affordable.

Home features: All homes have hurricane resistant construction, granite counter tops, and high quality laminate plank flooring in living areas if not original hardwood.

Green features:  ENERGY STAR electrical fixtures and appliances, double-paned windows, and energy efficient central heating and air conditioning systems (HVAC).  Two remaining homes in Gentilly meet Enterprise Green Communities and Builder’s Challenge standards.
